Thomas Horner of Low Bishopside

Ninth Generation - Thomas Horner of Low Bishopside

Thomas Horner, father of James Horner of Pateley Bridge was born in 1628, the son of William Horner [1] . He was the youngest of perhaps three sons [2] .

Thomas married Anne Lupton in Pateley Bridge in 1642 [3] .Of their five children only one son, James and two girls, Anne and Margaret survived childhood [4] . Thomas lost his wife Anna in 1667 [5] . Life must have been hard for him with three small children.

This Thomas may be the Thomas Horner of Gouththwaite, who was executor of the will of Peter Smith of Erdin Wath in Netherdale in 1650 [6] . Thomas Horner died in 1692 and left his son James Horner as his executor. Thomas Horner was described as of Low Bishopside in 1692 in his will. He was buried at Pateley Bridge and mentions property at Whitehouse. Thomas’s sons William and James and his granddaughter Ann Burrell are mentioned in his will [7] .
