Some of the Horners of York appear to have moved to Leeds in the late sixteenth century. A Robert Horner, a York clothier married Mare Taylor in 1551 in Rothwell [1] . This Robert Horner may be the same man recorded in Leeds Kirkgate in 1543 being a free tenant worth twenty shillings a year and paying 1 penny [2] . Robert Horner was a witness to the will of a William Horner of Leeds in 1551 [3] . This William was a Tailor and left a wife, Euphemia and a son Christopher . William was buried in St Peters Church in Leeds. At present, the connection between this Robert Horner and the Horners of Leeds has not been established, but it would appear that he moved from York when the clothing industry fell into decline.

According to WS Hornor, Robert Horner, clothier of York died in Kirkgate in Leeds in 1599 [4] .. He was the son of Barnard Horner of York who died at St Crux, York in 1559. However, this has not been proved and according to Milton Rubican these Horners cannot be proved to be related [5] .
