Pateley Bridge Horners

The Pateley Bridge Horners

I would think it highly probable that the Horners of Craven were connected, either by marriage or through land holdings with Pateley Bridge. In the sixteenth century, Pateley was part of the Parish of Ripon, but it also abutted the parish of Kirkby Malzeard. The moors of Kilnsey, and Appletreewick abutted the moors of Nidderdale, and it is quite conceivable that the Horners held land there as well.

So, it would appear that the Horners of Conistone, Kilnsey Rhylstone and Linton parishes in Craven were ultimately related to each other. These Horners were also probably related to the Horners of Nidderdale. Both lines of Horners lived on the estates that were once joined by the ancient manor of Malham. The Lordship of Malham had included not only the townships of Bordley, Malham and Malham Moor, but also estates in Hebden, Austwick, Horton in Ribblesdale, Long Preston and Wigglesworth [304] . These estates had also been at one time part of the estates of Fountains Abbey and there were Ingleby family connections between Hawkswick and Clapham in the sixteenth century. However, these lines die out in Skipton, Conistone and Beamsley in the seventeenth century and cannot be traced any further.
