Jonathan Spence of Middlesmoor
Thomas Spence’s father Jonathan Spence was the son of Chrsitopher and Anne Spence of Dallowgill [1] . He joined his two year old brother Simon [2] . By the time Jonathan was twenty-two he had been joined by his brothers, Isaac, Abraham and Joseph, and his sisters Rebecca, Sarah and Anna [3] . Jonathan appears to have married twice [4] . His brother Simon married Alice Fryer in 1731 [5] . Jonathan had a large family of six children in Middlesmoor, including four sons and two daughters. However, only one daughter Elizabeth made it to adulthood [6] . His daughter Ann and son Joseph died in childhood [7] . His son Abraham married in Kirkby Malzeard and his son John married in Middlesmoor [8] . His son John moved to Lamb Close and started a family that eventually moved to Embsay. Jonathan
died on 31 May 1783 at Well House, Stean, in Middlesmoor

Simon Spence married Alice Fryer on 3 August 1731.
